The Australian and New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ANZCCJ) Executive Council is pleased to announce that Ms Cristina Merino has been appointed as the Chamber’s new Executive Director, effective 1 July 2015. In this role, she will act as the business manager and coordinator for all ANZCCJ activities.
Ms Merino will take up her position at a time when the ANZCCJ implements a new strategy for engagement with the Japanese business community. A key pillar of this new strategy will be to seek out opportunities for member involvement in the 2019 Rugby World Cup and the 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Japan. At the same time, an important focus of the work of the ANZCCJ will be to raise the profile of the Chamber in Japanese business and political circles.
Prior to joining the ANZCCJ, Ms Merino was Business Development Manager at Meat & Livestock Australia’s Japan office. Over her career, she has worked at the Australian Embassy, Japan, as part of the Executive Team, and for a Japanese company in the construction of a Japan Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC) project in Central America. She holds a Bachelor of International Business, specialising in Japanese, from Queensland University of Technology; and a Master of Arts, Intercultural Communication, from Kyushu University. She is fluent in English, Japanese and Spanish.
“We are delighted to welcome Ms Merino on board as we enter an important phase for the Chamber in Japan. We believe she has the skills, experience and energy required as we embark on our next growth phase in this important market for both Australia and New Zealand,” said Melanie Brock, Chair, Australian and New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Japan.
Ms Merino replaces Ms Misako Kitaoka who had been in the position since 2013.
