Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment The HoN STEVEN CIOBO MP
17 April 2017
Marking 60 years of Australia's trade and investment partnership with JapanI am leading a business delegation to Japan to support the creation of new export opportunities for Australian businesses, which will help generate more Australian jobs.
The delegation is made up of senior business leaders from the food and beverage, financial services, and health and life sciences sectors. Together, we will pursue new commercial opportunities, promote ‘brand Australia’ and forge new business partnerships.
A major focus of my visit, on April 18-19, will be to progress the implementation of the Japan Australia Economic Partnership Agreement (JAEPA). Australia is the only major agricultural exporter to have a Free Trade Agreement with Japan and our exports are booming under this landmark agreement.
Sixty years since the Australia-Japan Commerce Agreement, our commercial and trade policy relationship with Japan is strong and productive.
As the third largest economy in the world, and our second largest export market and source of foreign investment, Japan is a vitally important trade and economic partner for Australia. The challenges facing the global trading system make close and effective cooperation between Australia and Japan more vital than ever.
The Turnbull Government is committed to expanding trade and investment with Japan as we work together to advance our shared commitment to a global system of open, liberalised trade.
