ANZCCJ Advisors networking with Japanese participants, SME Support Program event

    Like usFollow us

Despite political unease and trade uncertainty on the global stage, figures released this month by the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed the value of Australian exports in 2015-16 reaching record highs. Increased trade with Japan played a key role in this strong showing, deepening already strong relationships. Furthermore, a recent report has identified New Zealand as the second best country for business in 2017, a result we want to make sure our Japanese friends hear about. With the continuing signs I see and hear of Japan continuing to gear up for further off shore investment, the Chamber and its members can play a growing role to leverage the trends, deepen relationships and improve business for Australian/New Zealand businesses on the ground here. There is also the opportunity for our organisations in our home countries to benefit and for our Japanese partners to maximise success in Australia/New Zealand through their relationships with Chamber members.

A big focus for ANZCCJ this month has been on engaging and listening to our members’ feedback. Thank you to all the members who took the time to meet with us at one of our sponsor engagement meetings. We will be referring to these results during our upcoming Strategy Planning session and look forward to sharing the results of that meeting with you soon.

As I have noted, 2017 will see the Chamber focus on helping Japanese companies expand into Australian and New Zealand markets. A good example of success is our new member Nishio Rent All, a Japanese rental company that recently acquired significant equity interests in the Australian market. We are eager for Nishio and our other Japanese members to share their experiences with the rest of the membership so we can help these initiatives succeed further in the future.

ANZCCJ would like to extend a warm welcome to Ambassador-Designate Hon Richard Court AC, who arrived in Japan this month. Ambassador-Designate Court was WA Treasurer and Premier from 1993 to 2001 and is a recipient of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star for his exceptional contributions to the expansion of Australia-Japan relations. We look forward to working with you to further enhance Australia-Japan business ties.

Finally, we would like to remind our members of their benefits for the coming year. We will be revamping our online public directory and launching a members-only forum designed to facilitate cross-border business engagement and to enhance business promotion and marketing. We will be sharing updates on these projects as they develop.
