Dear Members and Friends,

 

Our community is shocked and saddened by the shooting of former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo in Nara today.

 

Japan’s longest serving Prime Minister and one of the most prominent global leaders of our time, Abe san was held in high regard for his deep commitment towards international diplomacy, and as a true friend to Australia and New Zealand. He will be deeply missed.

 

It is particularly shocking to hear of such an incident occurring in our peaceful, beloved Japan.

 

Our sincere thoughts and condolences go to his friends, colleagues and loved ones, especially his wife Akie.
