ANZCCJ, in collaboration with Lendlease, Ashe Morgan, Mirvac, NAB, ANZ, SMBC, and MinterEllison and proudly supported by the Australian Embassy in Japan, invites members and guests to join us on Wednesday, 4 February 2026 for an in-depth discussion on market trends and regulatory developments in the Australian residential sector.
Against a backdrop of shifting interest rates, record-low vacancy in key markets, and a suite of new housing and planning reforms, Australia’s residential landscape is undergoing rapid change. From apartments and master planned developments to land lease communities and retirement living, the sector is seeing evolving capital flows, new delivery models, and an increased focus on affordability, sustainability, and long-term income resilience.
This session will unpack the key trends and regulatory settings shaping residential investment - including planning and zoning changes, housing policy initiatives, structuring options, and lender expectations - and what they mean for offshore investors, particularly from Japan. Through practical case studies and on-the-ground insights, speakers will highlight how Japanese capital is already partnering with Australian developers, fund managers and advisers across the full residential spectrum, and where the next wave of opportunities is likely to emerge.
This is a must-attend event for Japanese institutional investors, financiers, developers and advisors looking to access or expand their presence in Australia’s real asset markets.

ANZCCJ invites members and friends to join us in celebrating International Women's Day at a special breakfast event on Friday 6 March 2026 at the Pullman Tokyo Tamachi.
Join Rionne McAvoy, President & CEO, Japan Media Services Inc., and director of The Ones Left Behind: The Plight of Single Mothers in Japan, for a fireside chat with Mayumi Nishida, Co-representative Director of Heart Full Family - a charity dedicated to supporting single mothers and fathers on their path to independence and empowering single-parent families to lead fulfilling, connected lives.
Together, our speakers will explore the 2026 International Women’s Day global theme, “Give to Gain.” This theme - rooted in the idea that progress accelerates when we uplift others - encourages individuals, businesses, and communities to take meaningful action that strengthens the collective good. The IWD movement highlights that generosity is not passive; it is a deliberate investment in advancing women’s equality.
This year, ANZCCJ has chosen to focus on single mothers and the realities of single-parent households in Japan, an issue that lies at the crossroads of gender, inequality, economic participation, and social inclusion. Rionne’s award-winning documentary The Ones Left Behind offers an unflinching look at the challenges many single mothers endure: systemic barriers, societal stigma, limited support structures, and the increasing number of women who fall into poverty despite working tirelessly. Through powerful personal stories, the film reveals how structural inequities and rigid employment norms continue to constrain opportunities for women raising children alone.
These experiences reflect core IWD principles - dignity, opportunity, representation - and underscore the urgent need to create a society where no woman is left behind because of her circumstances. By spotlighting this issue, the Chamber aims to promote awareness of an often-overlooked social and economic challenge - one that is deeply connected to Japan’s future workforce health, productivity, and community resilience. It is also an opportunity for our members to reflect on how each of us can “give” in ways that enable others, and our society as a whole, to “gain.”
The conversation will explore practical ways individuals and organisations can meaningfully #GiveToGain - through mentorship, sharing expertise, opening networks, offering resources, advocating for change, and creating opportunities - and how these commitments build long-term, sustainable impact for women, families, and society as a whole.
Speakers include
- Helen Stylianou, Australian Chargé d'affaires to Japan
- Ambassador Lucy Duncan, New Zealand Chargé d’Affaires in Japan

Japanese cross-border M&A into Australia was very strong in 2023 with over 50 M&A deals and 38 new partnerships in 2023. Australia is regarded as an attractive non-US destination as it is a stable market and encouraging of Japanese investment. Active sectors included energy, innovation, real estate and decarbonisation.

Some of the most notable M&A transactions involving Japanese companies in 2023 included:
- Kirin’s $1.9 billion takeover of ASX-Listed Blackmores, a vitamins and supplements producer.

ANZCCJ invites members and friends to join us in celebrating International Women's Day at a special breakfast event on 8 March at the Pullman Tokyo Tamachi. Chamber co-vice chair Ms Catherine O’Connell will moderate a discussion with senior business leaders Ms Eriko Asai, Co-Founder, Trinity Indo-Pacific Partners; Mr Takuro Kimura, Founder and CEO, G-Cubed Partners and Chairman of Women of the World Endowment (WoWE); and Ms Julia Spotswood, Founder, Jetset Dry Bar on the 2024 theme of ‘Invest in women: Accelerate Progress’, delving into how ensuring gender equality and women's well-being across all areas of life is vital for building prosperous economies and sustaining a healthy planet, particularly in the current global landscape. From tackling the macro challenges of gender-lens investing; to successfully carving a name in Japan`s ultra-competitive beauty industry; and launching a multi-national strategic advisory company as the world emerged from the pandemic, the discussion will highlight the importance of how empowering women across various spheres, including entrepreneurship, leadership, and beyond is vital in accelerating progress. Against the backdrop of Net Zero targets and increasing calls for meaningful action on climate change, the global market for hydrogen and related chemical products continues to develop at pace. Given the significant commercial headwinds faced by the industry, including supply chain constraints and higher interest rates, policy-makers are stepping up to provide support across the value chain, including for production projects, transportation, and development of the downstream market.
