The ANZCCJ Sustainability Committee in collaboration with Ashurst and the South Australian Government, supported by Austrade is pleased to invite you to an afternoon of discussion, insights, and networking at the Australian Embassy in Tokyo.
Australia and Japan are at a pivotal moment in their energy transitions - navigating the shared challenge of advancing decarbonisation while maintaining energy security, industrial competitiveness and investor confidence. Against a backdrop of tightening insurance markets, capital constraints, supply-chain disruption and growing geopolitical uncertainty, managing climate and financial risk is becoming central to sustaining credible transition pathways in 2026 and beyond.
This event will bring together senior leaders from finance, insurance, energy, aviation and industry to examine how Australia and Japan can work together to de-risk the transition while preserving commercial viability and long-term energy security. Discussion will focus on project bankability, regulatory and geopolitical pressures, and practical tools to strengthen resilience across bilateral supply chains and investment flows.
Key areas of strategic alignment between the two countries will be explored, including the evolving role of LNG as a transition fuel, hydrogen and ammonia value chains, carbon markets and supply-chain security, and the growing importance of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors. Perspectives from across aviation, finance, insurance and energy will help connect policy ambition with commercially grounded transition pathways.
Join us for an afternoon of candid discussion and networking as we explore how Australia and Japan can navigate climate, financial and geopolitical risk - and build a more secure, resilient and investable energy transition together.

The New Zealand Embassy, in collaboration with the Australian and New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ANZCCJ) and the Australian Embassy, is pleased to host a casual reception in recognition of the contributions and adventures of New Zealand and Australian "returnees". As a returnee, we would love you to join us!
The alumni network is an incredibly important part of the ANZ community in Japan; you are ambassadors, mentors, and champions of the relationships between our 3 countries. We know for you too, that maintaining a link and remaining engaged with the country that you called home for even a short time, is just as important. You have made contributions and lasting legacies during your time in our countries.
We would like to keep the relationship going with our ANZCCJ Alumni Program. This will be the second gathering since we restarted the program after the pandemic, following the successful event at the Australian Embassy in September last year.
We look forward to hearing about your experiences and your opinions on how we can strengthen our international relationships, further facilitate business interactions, and help connect you with other returnees. Also, if you know of any other returnees we should be reaching out to, please do not hesitate to let us know.
- Date: Wednesday 22 May 2024

- Venue: New Zealand Embassy in Tokyo (20-40 Kamiyamacho, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo)
- Invitees: Returnees from New Zealand and Australia

ANZCCJ – Background
Since 1972, the Australian and New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ANZCCJ) has played a pivotal role in fostering commerce between Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. As an independent, non-profit organization, we are dedicated to providing our 550 members with essential information, representation, and valuable commercial connections. Our diverse community consists of Australian and New Zealand professionals conducting business in Japan, Japanese companies with economic ties to Australia and New Zealand, overseas members, and individuals maintaining business relationships between Japan and Australia/New Zealand.
Joining the ANZCCJ unlocks a multitude of benefits, including the opportunity to engage with visiting Australian and New Zealand government leaders, industry experts, and political figures. Attend enlightening seminars and social networking events that facilitate knowledge sharing and valuable experiences. Participate in conversations on pressing issues affecting your business, while also having the chance to promote your own endeavors. Additionally, members receive exclusive briefings on politics, trade, and economic developments from the Australian and New Zealand Embassies.
Importantly, joining the ANZCCJ provides unparalleled access to the ANZCCJ Committees which play active roles in representing and developing business interests in Japan. They offer returning expatriates one of the best avenues to interact, converse, and learn from inspiring individuals who are leading in their industries. The current makeup of ANZCCJ Committees is shaped by the needs and interests of members as well as the current business environment and are as follows:
(i) Food, Agriculture & Hospitality;
(ii) Sports for Business;
(iii) Technology, Innovation, Education & Research; and the
(iv) Sustainability Committee.
Complementing these committees are ANZCCJ’s SME Networking Community and Young Generation Program initiatives which provide further networking opportunities for returnees across multiple business sizes and generations.
Additionally, by becoming a member of ANZCCJ and joining our newly set up Alumni Program for Returnees from Australia and New Zealand, your contribution to the development of business between Australia/Zealand and Japan and your assistance with the young generation’s career development through the sharing of your knowledge and experience will be of immense value to help strengthening relationships between the three countries.
