They offer returning expatriates one of the best avenues to interact, converse, and learn from inspiring individuals who are leading in their industries. The current makeup of ANZCCJ Committees is shaped by the needs and interests of members as well as the current business environment and are as follows:

Complementing these committees are ANZCCJ’s SME Networking Community and Young Generation Program initiatives which provide further networking opportunities for returnees across multiple business sizes and generations.
Additionally, by becoming a member of ANZCCJ and joining our newly set up Alumni Program for Returnees from Australia and New Zealand, your contribution to the development of business between Australia/Zealand and Japan and your assistance with the young generation’s career development through the sharing of your knowledge and experience will be of immense value to help strengthening relationships between the three countries.

One by Penfolds celebrates what makes us all different and unique, but also the things that bring us together – as represented by the winemaking regions from where the One by Penfolds range is made around the world. Using his signature style, NIGO designed three animal motifs which feature on the wine labels – a crocodile, rooster and bear. The designs represent the winemaking regions where One by Penfolds wines are sourced – Australia, France and America. Each One by Penfolds wine has its own distinct personality while remaining anchored by Penfolds ‘House Style’. This worldly set of wines are medium-bodied, vibrant, and aromatic.

Widely acknowledged among influential figures in Australia and Japan's government and business sectors, a thriving technology and innovation industry is essential for sustained growth and development of their respective economies. In fact, technology has already emerged as Australia's third-largest sector, trailing only mining and banking, underscoring its significance for the country's future progress. Yet, as interest rates rise, tech investors are reevaluating their strategies, shifting from solely pursuing market share growth to emphasizing profitability and financial prudence in their start-up portfolios.
To foster the growth of the start-up ecosystem in Australia and encourage collaboration between Australia and Japan in the field of innovation, MUFG Bank Ltd, Ashurst, and Artesian in collaboration with the ANZCCJ, Austrade, State governments and JETRO invite ANZCCJ members and guests to join an Australia-Japan innovation seminar on 21 July 2023 in Tokyo.
During the seminar, a panel will delve into the Australian innovation ecosystem and explore key technology verticals such as climate, health, and defense and how the innovation space within the economy lays the foundation for driving prosperity in both nations in the decades to come.

HYDROGEN ECONOMICS: Opportunities in Australia and Japan,
the outlook for powering our green tomorrow
Developments in policy, technology and economics are driving a huge global interest in hydrogen & ammonia. Australia has recently ramped up its support for hydrogen with the “Hydrogen Headstart Program” – largely in response to the competition from the US’s Inflation Reduction Act. As a fuel, hydrogen offers a way to eliminate emissions from sectors of the economy that are hardest to decarbonise, as well as to provide much needed inter-seasonal storage in energy systems with high levels of variable renewable power generation. Consequently, hydrogen is likely to be a vital piece in the Net Zero puzzle.
ANZCCJ in collaboration with Aurora Energy Research invite members and guests to join us on 9 June 2023 for a panel discussion on the enormous opportunities and requirements for Australia and Japan to partner on the future of hydrogen in the decarbonization march towards Net Zero targets.
The panel will delve into Australia's hydrogen landscape including the impact of recent budget announcements along with a deep dive analysis on the economics across key APAC regions including i) drivers of demand for hydrogen and its chemical products across APAC, including how this is expected to evolve over the coming decades; ii) comparisons of production and delivery costs from potential export regions (Australia, the USA, Chile and the UAE) to Japan; and iii) how an emerging hydrogen industry is going to impact power markets and renewable economics.
Speakers include:
- HE Justin Hayhurst - Australian Ambassador to Japan
- Rowan von Spreckelsen - Head of Research - APAC, Aurora Energy Research
- Edit Mucsi - Director, Minerals and Energy Sector, Department for Trade and Investment South Australia
- Martin Stollberg, Investment Director, Austrade
- Hiroyuki Sakaida - Associate Director, Green Investment Group, Macquarie Asset Management Japan Co., Ltd

From Japan we watched with heartbreak as cyclone Gabrielle and the subsequent flooding wreaked devastation across New Zealand. To date, 11 people have lost their lives, approximately 1,500 homes have suffered damage, and several thousand people have been displaced along the east coast of the North Island. Local communities have been greatly impacted and will continue to suffer for years to come with businesses, farms, factories, and vineyards -including those with trading relationships with Japan – having been destroyed.
We want the people of Gisborne and the surrounding areas to know that they are not forgotten, and we are with them. To help in our own small way, the ANZCCJ is proud to support a flood relief fundraiser event for SuperGrans Tairawhiti Trust a longstanding registered charity operating across Gisborne and the East Coast region. The incredible organisation has been providing grass roots support of meals, emergency care and essential resources to people who have been directly displaced. On an ongoing basis, SuperGrans whanau (extended family) mentors will continue to share their knowledge and skills with people in their communities based on the concept of kaitiaki mentoring (the sharing of generational knowledge).
A team of people in Japan with connections to New Zealand have come together to host this event which will include an auction of generously donated gifts and experiences from individuals and businesses across Japan and New Zealand. The individuals involved are connected with the organisations listed in the sponsors and partners section below. All profits from ticket sales and proceeds from the auction will go directly to SuperGrans.

Time: 19:00 - 21:30 (doors open at 18:30)
Venue: Tokyo American Club - New York Ballroom (Map)
Price: JPY18,000 (includes standing buffet dinner and free flowing drinks)

We invite you to check out the exciting charity auction page, which is now live and will run until the night of the event. This unique opportunity is open to individuals based in Japan and New Zealand and features a range of fantastic prizes, including wine, signed rugby jerseys, hotel stays, and even a private art tour of the New Zealand Embassy with Ambassador Cooper. For rugby enthusiasts, the chance to win a dinner with the legendary Steve Hansen and your mates is not to be missed. While some items will only be available for live bidding at the event, there are many others that can be bid on through the website. This means that even if you can't attend the event, you can still participate in the auction and potentially win some amazing prizes while supporting a good cause. So don't miss out on this incredible opportunity to bid on unique items while making a difference in the lives of those in need!
