The Australian and New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ANZCCJ), in partnership with key Chamber members, Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer and the Australia-Japan Research Centre (AJRC), is pleased to extend an exclusive invitation to our Platinum and Gold Members for a private dinner briefing on the 9th Annual Japan–Australia Investment Report.
Produced by Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer in collaboration with the AJRC at the Australian National University, the Japan-Australia Investment Report is widely regarded as the benchmark publication analysing cross-border investment flows between the two countries. The report tracks Japanese mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic partnerships in Australia, providing detailed insights into deal volumes, sector trends and the evolving commercial relationship between Japan and Australia, as well as the strategic forces underpinning Japanese investment, including energy and resources security, renewable energy and decarbonisation initiatives, real estate and infrastructure investment, and emerging sectors such as technology and critical minerals.
We are delighted to welcome co-authors of the report, Damien Roberts and Professor Shiro Armstrong, who will present the key findings from the 9th edition. The briefing will draw on an in-depth analysis of Japan-Australia M&A transactions and partnerships throughout 2025, highlighting the major deal trends that shaped the year and the key drivers expected to influence the trajectory of the bilateral investment relationship in 2026 and beyond. The report is widely used by investors, corporations, policymakers and advisors as a reference point for understanding where Japanese capital is flowing and where the next Australia–Japan investment opportunities lie.

Against the backdrop of Net Zero targets and increasing calls for meaningful action on climate change, the global market for hydrogen and related chemical products continues to develop at pace. Given the significant commercial headwinds faced by the industry, including supply chain constraints and higher interest rates, policy-makers are stepping up to provide support across the value chain, including for production projects, transportation, and development of the downstream market.
ANZCCJ, in collaboration with the South Australian Department of Trade & Investment and Herbert Smith Freehills, invites members and guests to join us on 27 February 2024, for the third instalment in the ANZCCJ Hydrogen Series. This event will address the key issues for hydrogen offtake in the APAC region, with a particular focus on Australia and Japan, identifying the major opportunities and the material challenges for development of the market for hydrogen and related chemical products.

- What is the role of the Executive Council? - The Executive Council is the governing body of the ANZCCJ, consisting of 12 Councillors. As a group, the Executive Council determines the Chamber’s policies and priorities and oversees its financial affairs. The main roles and responsibilities of Executive Council members include:
- Furthering the Chamber’s core mission, setting key strategic objectives and ensuring activities align.
- Helping the ANZCCJ deliver real value for its members, as well as outreach to new and potentially beneficial members.
- Being a senior representative for the ANZCCJ, attending ANZCCJ meetings and events.
- Actively participating in or chairing one or more ANZCCJ committees or working groups that deal with specific issues or initiatives, acting as a liaison between the Executive Council and that Committee/working group. This initiative will draw from the EC members’ strengths and skills, align with their current profession or interests, and provide further learning and development opportunities.
- Acting as MC or moderator at events, particularly those related to the Committee with which the council member is affiliated.
- Overseeing the Secretariat’s management of the ANZCCJ’s operations.
- Who can become a member of the Executive Council? - All current members of the ANZCCJ are eligible for nomination to the Executive Council. According to the ANZCCJ Constitution, the Executive Council must consist of:
- at least seven (7) Councillors from companies holding Corporate Membership
- at least two (2) members of Australian companies holding Corporate Membership
- at least one (1) member of a New Zealand company holding Corporate Membership
- at least two (2) members holding Individual Membership
- The Executive Council will require at least one member holding Corporate Membership for the 2023-2025 Executive Council Election.
(2) 2023 - 2025 Executive Council Election - Voting Process
- How do I vote? - Companies with Corporate Sponsorship and Individual members of the Chamber each have one vote with a weighted value (Platinum 4, Gold 4, Silver 4, Bronze 3, Individual 1). For example, a Platinum Sponsor company can submit one vote, which will carry a weighted value of 4. Those with Individual memberships can also submit one vote, which will carry a weighted value of 1.
- Absentee and proxy voting - To ensure that the Executive Council Election reflects the wishes of our full membership base, we strongly encourage members who cannot attend to submit their votes through absentee or proxy vote forms, to be distributed to all members on 01 December. Please note that the absentee voting period will close at 5pm on 07 December.
- In-person voting - At the AGM on 08 December 2023.
